About these terms
These terms apply when you use the alé app or alemauritius.com. By creating an account or booking a ride, you agree to them. Please read them together with our privacy policy.
What alé is
alé is a technology platform that connects riders with independent drivers who hold a PSV licence in Mauritius. alé does not provide transport and does not employ the drivers. Each ride is an agreement between the rider and the driver, at the price the driver set and the rider saw before booking.
Your account
- You sign in with your email address and a code we email you. A new account also confirms its mobile number with a code on WhatsApp.
- Give us accurate information and keep it up to date, and keep your email and phone secure. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- One account is for one person. A company or agency uses the company features rather than a shared account.
Booking a ride
- Before you book you see each car with its driver’s fare, the cancellation terms and who the ride is for. When you slide to book, your request goes to drivers of the car type you chose, or a better one of the same shape, and the first driver to accept takes the ride.
- A driver is not guaranteed. If nobody is free, a request for a ride now stays open for 30 minutes and then closes.
- Be at the pickup on time, with the number of people and bags you booked for. For an airport ride, give your flight number.
- Give your driver your four-digit ride code when you get in. The ride starts only with the right code.
Paying
- You pay the driver directly at the end of the ride, in cash or with MCB Juice, the fare you saw when you booked. The app shows it in your currency and in rupees.
- alé does not process, receive or hold payments, and takes no commission from drivers. The receipt we email is a record of the ride.
- If you disagree with a driver about a fare, write to [email protected] and we will help, but the payment itself is between you and the driver.
Cancelling
- The cancellation terms for your ride, including any fee, are on the booking screen before you slide to book. Any cancellation fee is owed to the driver.
- A driver who cannot make a ride booked ahead can give it back, and it goes out to other drivers again.
Booking for others, companies and agencies
- You may book rides for another person only once they have agreed by giving you the code we email them. They can stop it at any time in the app.
- Owners of a company or agency decide who books for it. The person who books is responsible for the details of the ride; the traveller pays the driver as on any ride.
Rules for riders
- Treat your driver and their car with respect, follow the law and your driver’s reasonable safety instructions, and do not ask them to break the law.
- You are responsible for any damage you cause to the car.
Rules for drivers
- Hold, and keep valid, every licence, permit and insurance that Mauritian law requires to carry passengers for hire, including a PSV licence, and keep your vehicle roadworthy.
- Send true documents when you apply and keep them up to date. The alé team reviews every application and may refuse or suspend a driver.
- You set your own prices, choose when you are online and which requests you accept. Once you accept a ride, carry it out as booked, check the rider’s ride code and charge only the fare shown.
- You are an independent driver, not an employee of alé, and you are responsible for your own taxes and costs.
Ratings, chat and badges
- Riders and drivers rate each other after each ride. Ratings and compliments must be honest and respectful.
- Each trip has a chat for the rider and the driver, open until 3 hours after the ride ends. Do not use it for anything other than the ride.
- Drivers earn badges from their ratings and riders’ compliments. We may remove ratings, messages or badges that break these terms.
Safety
The Safety button opens your phone to call the police on 999 or an ambulance on 114, and lets you alert the alé team. alé is not an emergency service: in an emergency, always call 999 or 114.
Lost items
If you leave something in a car, message your driver in the trip’s chat or write to us. Drivers are asked to help, but alé is not responsible for lost items.
Our responsibility
- alé is provided as it is. We work to keep it running, but we cannot promise it will always be available, that a driver will accept every request or that every ride will run on time.
- As far as the law allows, alé is not responsible for what riders or drivers do, for the rides themselves, or for indirect losses such as a missed flight.
- Nothing in these terms limits a responsibility that the law of Mauritius does not allow us to limit.
Suspending or closing an account
You can stop using alé at any time and ask us to delete your account by writing to [email protected]. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts anyone’s safety at risk or misuses alé.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as alé changes, and will change the date at the top. If a change matters to you, we will tell you in the app or by email before it applies.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the law of Mauritius, and the courts of Mauritius decide any dispute about them. For any question, write to [email protected].
